Screen printed poster by Sara Laè for the exhibition TURBULATOR at Röda Sten Konsthall, December 2024
Sara Laè was born in Paris in the late 80s. She moved to Brussels to study illustration and comics at ERG. In 2014, she co-created the Musée Ephèmère de l’Exil, an association that explores the question of Exile as a starting point for founding myths. She organizes workshops and exhibitions using poetry, images and, above all, the different stories of migratory lives. In 2018, she left the associative sector to focus on printed images, returning to a more personal artistic practice. She studied screen print in evening classes and then joined the Studio Chromodrome with Vincent BichelBerger. At the same time, she runs workshops for punk kids with La Boite à clous. Her aim is to pass on the pleasure of storytelling and appropriating tools in a variety of forms (shadow theater, puppets, mechanical objects, fanzines, etc.). Self-taught sewing and embroidery give rhythm to her practice. She initially sees the sewing machine as a drawing machine, in a kind of battle with the line. She works to build bridges between the porous boundaries of the Real and the Imaginary.
