Screen printed graphic from an original rya weave by Emelie Röndahl. Emelie is a weaving artist deeply entangled with the old Swedish rya-technique of figurative tapestry weaving, or “crying pixels”. Rya weaves are two-sided, with one smooth and one hairy reverse, transforming any motive into a distorted, grotesque mirror of itself. This screen printed graphic of one of Emelie’s recent works, “Buttocks”, is interpreting the hairy side of the weave in all its messy, tangled beauty. The print is a part of Emelie’s current exhibition “Till sängs” at Landskrona konsthall.
