Aleksandar Denić is a Serbian painter known for his mash-up paintings of famous personalities from the yellow pages and world of politics, commenting on daily political events with edge and inexplicable clarity, unlike the mainstream discourse. He also draws epic battles. The battles of Aleksandar Denić are carefully penciled drawings of tiny medieval armies marching up to the battle field in perfect formation, works that take weeks to finish and are both childish in their expression and romantic in their projection of a fair war between “two Christian armies that are both good”.
We printed a series of Denić’s battles on vintage nautical charts. These prints are all one of a kind, each depicting a different seascape with tiny little soldiers marching up from all sides. This landscape series is printed on nautical charts showing the Gothenburg and West coast archipelago from 1981.
